Memory Alpha

Memory Alpha is the name of a wiki encyclopedia for topics related to the Star Trek universe. In the fictional Star Trek universe, "Memory Alpha" was the name for an inhabited planetoid with the home for a Federation central library, as it first appeared in the TOS episode "The Lights of Zetar". That's why this name was chosen for the wiki.

Klingon language Policy

The wiki is very strict on the canonicity, defining canon only as what has been seen "on screen". Therefore, the Klingon language as described in The Klingon Dictionary (and in this wiki) is NOT accepted as canon.

Their explanation is simple: Even though the spoken words have been *heard* on screen, they have not been *seen* there (nor were they in the movie script, which would be a permitted source for canon spellings of words). On the other hand, the name for the Klingon homeworld (English spelling Kronos according to TKD) was displayed as Qo'noS on a screen during Star Trek Into Darkness (see MOVED TO... Kronos), so the wiki admins accepted to even name the according page that way, using the Klingon spelling (1).

Even the fact that two phrases using Klingon spelling were visible on screen during Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country only proves that those phrases are accepted as canon, but nothing else(2).

Meanwhile, after hard convincing work of Chris Lipscombe and Lieven L. Litaer, The Klingon Dictionary is accepted as a "reference work" (3) and the Klingon spelling can be added to pages at the "background information" field.
