Klingon operas

     This is about real operas. For fictive operas see operas (fictive).

This page talks about terran operas and plays using the Klingon Language. It is not about fictive operas mentioned on Star Trek.

juHrop

This opera uses a mix of English, Chinese and Klingon phrases combined with very experimental electronic sounds. It premiered on 9 January 2009 on the german radio station "Deutschlandradio Kultur"(1). It was composed by Frieder Butzmann, Klingon dialogues were translated by Lieven L. Litaer. The title juHrop was intended to mean "homesickness". The piece is 52 minutes long.

This opera in three acts is completely in Klingon and relates the legend of Kahless the Unforgettable - betrayed by his brother, witness to his father's brutal slaying, creator of the first Bat'leth, the love of the lady Lukara, and many epic battles. It premiered at the Hague on 10 Sept 2010. It was composed by Eef van Breen to a libretto by Kees Ligtelijn and Marc Okrand, under the artistic direction of Floris Schönfeld. The legends are also related in book form in paq'batlh.
