Question as object

For a long time, it was unclear whether a question as object would be grammatically correct, or how it could be done. Most people first agreed that it was not allowed, but after receiving a small canon example, the problem could be pinned down to another problem: The QAO constructions are not illegal per se, but they should not be misinterpreted as statements with relative pronouns.

The question arises when translating a phrase like "I know how it is made" creates something like chay' chenlu' 'e' vISov. It remains unanswered whether this is correct or not.

Sentence as Object as Question

One example from the Talk Now software supports the idea that you can use the pronoun-like (not relative pronoun) question words nuq and 'Iv in the place of the answer, just as TKD describes, even if it's in the first sentence of a sentence-as-object construction. However, these other examples are speculative and we do not have examples or confirmation of any of these other examples.

nuq Datlhutlh DaneH (Example from TalkNow!)
What do you want to drink?

nuqDaq bItlhutlh DaneH
Where do you want to drink?

ghorgh bItlhutlh DaneH
When do you want to drink?

HIq 'ar Datlhutlh DaneH
How many ales do you want to drink?

chay' Datlhutlh DaneH
How do you want to drink it?

qatlh Datlhutlh DaneH
Why do you want to drink it?

'Iv vIHoH DaneH?
Who do you want me to kill?

Any misinterpretation as a true QAO would make no sense at all: "You want who do I kill?" - "You want what do I drink?" - "You want how do I drink?"
