Syllables

The syllables are treated in the klingon like the following:

Capitalization

This never changes. At the beginning of a name the characters never get changed, it stays the way it is, i.e. ch or ng (NOT Ch or Ng).

Composition of a syllable

Most syllables are built of three characters. No word starts with a vowel (V). Klingon syllables are almost everytime "consonant-vowel-consonant" (CVC). gh, ng, ch, tlh and the Apostrophe each form a character.

Many syllables contain only two characters in the form of CV (i.e. na-Dev here, nI-teb alone), which is often used in names to prevent using real words while "inventing" a klingon name.

Exception

Often there are syllables with more than 3 characters. These exceptions are CVrgh, CVy', CVw'

Exceptions and names:
In names it can happen to see the following constructions: CVrq and CVrD. Here the only known cases are janluq pIqarD (1), qIrq (2) and qorD %SOURCE%
