The name Viacom is a combination of "Video and Audio Company". This was the first name of CBS after it was founded in 1971.


In 1994, Viacom aquired Paramount and Simon & Schuster. In 2006, Viacom was split back into CBS and Viacom, while Simon & Schuster stayed with CBS.
