Wedding Ceremony

This is the Klingon translation of the wedding ceremony as seen in the DSN episode "You Are Cordially Invited...". The cermony has been translated by Terrence Donnelly. This translation has been copied from his homepage into this wiki for archiving and future reference, because the original page is no longer available (1). It still remains coypright of Terrence Donnelly, © 1998.

  • In the text, "p. v. puqloD/puqbe'" stands for pong, vav puqloD/puqbe' (name, son/daughter of father) and refers to places where the name of the person being spoken to should be inserted.
  • In this text, the original word qa' nuvpu' for "gods" has been replaced by Qunpu', because the word Qun had not been known at the time of the original translation. The translator would have used that word if it had existed.
  • In Terrence' original translation, he is using a transliteration for the words Tawi'Yan ("sword-bearer"), Kal'Hyah ("klingon bachelor party"), and Ma'Staka ("pugil sticks"), but there is no known canon spelling for these words.

tIqvam qaDlu'chugh vaj HoSDaj Hajlu'bej." None can stand before it without trembling at its strength.

(The Tawi'Yan hands a betleH to the bride and groom. They engage in a mock battle. The bride conquers the groom, but does not administer the killing blow.)
Lady: Do' Sov nIv ghaj tIq cha'DIch. Fortunately, the second heart was tempered by wisdom.

(The participants at the kal'Hyah attack the bride and groom, using Ma'Staka clubs.)
