More Information

This phrase probably appeared based on the Star Trek (The Original Series) episode "Trouble with Tribbles" which included a lot of Klingons. In one scene, a Klingon named Korax tries to insult the crew of the Enterprise by comparing their ship to a garbage scow. (Note: There was no Klingon spoken in that episode, but Okrand created his first vocabulary based on the first episodes which included Klingons.)

KORAX: That sagging old rust bucket is designed like a garbage scow. Half the quadrant knows it. That's why they're learning to speak Klingonese.
SCOTT: Laddie, don't you think you should rephrase that?
KORAX: You're right, I should. I didn't mean to say that the Enterprise should be hauling garbage. I meant to say that it should be hauled away as garbage.
